I am seeking panelists for a session on “The Aftermath of Violence: The Lingering Memory of Genocide, War, and Political Terror,” that I am organizing for the XVIII ISA World Congress of Sociology which will be held on July 13-19 in Yokohama, Japan.
This panel presents a sociological exploration of the aftermath of collective violence, paying particular attention to how groups and societies deal with cultural trauma, reconciliation, and memorialization. The panel will showcase sociologists and social scientists focusing on the aftermath of genocide, war, terrorism, and other forms of collective violence, in order to reach a better understanding of its impact on future relations between the perpetrators and their victims.
A complete description of the panel can be found in the section on Research Committees: Futures Research (RC 07); panel 19. Abstracts need to be sent directly to the ISA website by September 30, 2013. Please feel free to contact me directly, or to visit the ISA website for more information.
