CFP: Zeitschrift für Genozidforschung: Special Issue on Darfur

The Zeitschrift für Genozidforschung (“Journal for Genocide Studies”) is published twice a year by the Institute for Diaspora and Genocide Studies (IDG) at the University of Bochum, Germany. The journal aims to provide an interdisciplinary venue for innovative research on collective violence and genocides. It seeks to combine articles from established scholars with contributions from promising young researchers.

For its second issue in 2014, the Zeitschrift für Genozidforschung invites submissions on the Darfur conflict. We are particularly – though not exclusively – interested in contributions that deal with international reactions to the violence that escalated in the region in 2003. How have external actors such as the media, NGOs, governments, or international organizations perceived and presented events? What explains responses from political and civil society at the national, transnational, and international level? Papers that take an explicit theoretical perspective or approach the case of Darfur comparatively are especially welcome.

If you are interested in submitting an article, please send an abstract of no more than 500 words plus a short biographical note to the editors at The deadline for the abstracts is March 31, 2014. We will inform you about the outcome of the selection process by April 7, 2014. Full article manuscripts (word limit: 10,000 words) are due July 15, 2014. The Zeitschrift für Genozidforschung accepts contributions in English and German.
